16 Aug Tampa Fishing Charters
Recent Tampa Fishing Charters have provided solid action!
Redfish, snapper , snook and spanish mackerel depending on the tide.
Redfish have been feeding on pinfish under corks, this time of year it is not uncommon to find the “reds” Schooled up. When this happens often times its chaos as everyone is hooked up, sometimes the feeding last 10 minutes, some days it lasts for hours . Either way its fun when you get them going. One key factor is being able to fish as quietly as possible. Slamming of cooler lids and deck hatch lids is a sure fire way to spook the school out. Often I will grb drinks for my clients and what ever else they need just as a precaution.
Snapper and snook have been hanging out in the same areas. Most of the snook are males and in the 22 to 27 inch range with the occasional larger female in the mix. Chumming hard gets the fish excited and feeding, good water flow is a must as these fish are feeding best during the peak flow periods. Snapper have been a by-catch while snook fishing and some of the fish have been on the larger side (16 inches). Snapper are great table fare and are fantastic cooked skin on, on the grill.
Spanish mackerel are beginning to show up again on wrecks, reefs and shoals. Smaller baits are fine here and and bring plenty! Recently there have been fish in the 30 inch range and once in a while a tarpon or kingfish show up for the party. the violent strike and burning runs make these fish crowd pleasers. Some days we fish around the storms this time of year, its just part of the adventure!
